Every quilt has an intention. Sometimes this intention reflects itself in fabric choices. The Women of the Bible – Block of the Month quilt intertwines both purposes, combining faith, artistic expression, and education.
Launching January 15, this program releases four blocks each month, gradually forming a stunning 110" x 125" quilt. With one, two, or three border options, the quilt may be made queen size by eliminating one or more borders.
The initial decision is whether to choose scrappy or coordinated; the decision itself carries a narrative.
Should You Choose a Scrappy or Coordinated Look?
Both fabric approaches work beautifully for this quilt. The final decisions are often based on the visual image you want to create with the story.
Scrappy Fabrics: Let Every Story Stand Apart
The scrappy quilt uses numerous other fabrics, colors, and prints, each representing diverse women from the scriptures with diverse backgrounds, circumstances, and faith journeys.
In the Bible, many women are unnamed or referred to only by their relationship to another, such as Noah's wife or the woman at the well. The scrappy layout can ensure that the blocks remain singular and unique, as did these women whose efforts for the kingdom of God were genuinely monumental, without acknowledgment in the written word.
Scrappy works well if you enjoy:
- Creative freedom
- Mixing prints and colors
- Let each block stand alone
Themed Fabrics: A Unified Story
A theme-based quilt necessitates a consistent color scheme or coordinated fabric collection. This is all the more fitting for a quilt; by providing serenity, it allows significance, scripture, or block design to truly shine without interference from anything in the visual field.
Working with themed fabric is a subtle sort of abstract meditation for some, especially in the context of a quilt. The consistency is like the common thread of faith that binds each story together.
Themed quilts are ideal if you prefer:
- Visual harmony
- A structured design plan
- A softer, more unified look
What Makes Each Block Meaningful?
An artistic quilt continues to be transformed into more than a sewing project. Every quilt block incorporates layers of meaning into fabric.
Each month, participants receive:
- A Bible verse
- A story of a woman in the Bible
- Historical and spiritual insight
- Reflection on her role, strength, and influence
The focus cohorts center on women-centered storytelling, showcasing lives that have shaped history through faith, courage, obedience, and resilience.
How Does the Community Experience Add Depth?
This program is intended for communal growth. Its participants are given access to a special Facebook group that belongs only to them. There, the blocks translate into stylized moments of shared learning and contemplation.
At each new release of a block, this group critically explores:
- Verse discussions
- Story context
- Meaning and application for women today
Turning a quilt into a journey that many people share—this process allows each stitcher to connect through prayers and scriptures, conversations, and personal creativity.
Flexible Ways to Join the Program

The Women of the Bible quilt, whether made from a scrappy mix of fabrics or coordinated fabric, is about much more than just the finishing. It's about the honor of telling the stories behind each block, the meditation in scripture, and the creation of something by hand, which leaves behind meaning.
Created as a united journey of faith and creativity, each stitch has space for laughter, guidance, and individual creation. Fabrics by the Creek offers Women of the Bible - Block of the Month to support quilters at each skill level, with a project to finish and one to grow into.
